  • Does anyone in Seladang have any connections with any production houses or someone with decent lighting equipment? :) Also, I've got some strange ideas for Silk. Maybe a whacky fashion comedy, whereby Silk can be part of the costumes and so and so? And maybe for the sad flick, something about someone who evidently passed away and left a Silk item to remember him/her by (sad, heartwarming story about the person's past ensues). As for the spine tingling flick, we could either do a ghost story (though it will probably turn out to be about some ghostly, pontianak-esque creature donning a Silk robe or something) or a short thriller. Something action packed and will keep the audience on their feet. That's about all I've got right now. :D - Ji Lian
  • Yeah, it's getting difficult for me to think of 3 plots at once. 8 minutes already doesn't allow much character development. For 3 minutes, they have to be static. For the horror ghost story… well… let's say that I made a really creepy sound effect a while ago while experimenting with Audacity and a mic (ask Jack, he freaked out) and that while experimenting with the keyboard last year, I found a really creepy tension-inducing patch to use. So we just need a really tense psychological horror for that. For comedy, I feel like delegating to the jokers (i.e. David Peters, Jack, Keshava etc.). I'll still oversee script, direction and editing but I might incline to give them more free rein over what's funny. For sad movie, I'm still thinking about it! - SienYi
  • Silk, isit. Well. Horror - Why not try something other than pontianaks and stuff. Maybe we could do something with a person who spun silk cloth? Like….embroidering ghostly pictures into silk that came to life or something. Or not, that's too Heroes. Something to do with silk ribbons, maybe? [random.] WAIT. I know. You know silk is made by killing the larvae after they make their cocoon and just before they emerge as butterflies or something like that? We could make that a focal point somehow. I dunno how. Or we could use the fact like…something that everyone dies for. Something as in a silk something. Touching Story - Wait, I know I have some ideas. I need to think them over though. Comedy - Welllllll….Hmmm. A fake reality TV show??? The Silk Idol? So You Think You Can Silk? Ummmm…Don't know. Alexis
  • I think that the 3 plots should be done by 3 different people/teams, with maybe Sien Yi giving them the direction? More work can be done that way, I think. And in reply to Alexis' suggestions, I agree about her 'touching story'. Maybe we can use 'Silk' to symbolize something. Though….I still want to see somebody die for the sad movie. Really tugs at your heartstrings when you put 'death' and 'touching, meaningful, symbolic (?) story' together. Oh, and does anyone have a decent, functioning camera with a tripod? Or know someone who can rent out (or lend?? :D) some equipment? - Ji Lian
  • Yes I agree that we should have different teams (as in actors) for each movie overseen by major key players. And I like Alexis' idea of using silk to symbolize something butterfly-ish but we need more thought on that to spin a plot. And for touching story, 'death' need not be the most preferred way of tugging at heartstrings. The whole idea of 'losing someone and never get the chance to see him/her again' is the main concept. A sudden loss is not as tear-jerking as a loss which both parties know is inevitable and they both seek last amendments/forgiveness from each other (a premise I had in mind for the 8-minute movie… till they changed the format.) Oh, Catherine has a good camera plus tripod… which belongs to her brother, Andrew, but I'm sure we can borrow his camera since it's technically not being helped by the staff. Oh, and I'd love to do a psychological horror for spine-tingler! - SienYi
  • Oh before i forget this….I've got another idea for the tear-jerker. We could have a totally silent film (apart from having the music and the distorted noise and ambience in the background), and for the ending, we can have some text or some short narration, incorporating Alexis' idea of having Silk symbolize something to sum up the entire movie. - Ji Lian
  • Oh my gosh, I thought of almost the same thing! But you need music of VERY good quality. I was thinking of a still photo-effects plus little Narrations in background plus ambient noise and music. I also thought about making a Tear-jerker with only ONE scene, so I can use 3 minutes to set and build the mood. Then, I also thought that if we could pull it off, a ONE SHOT 3-minute movie would be crazy-awesome (and difficult). Anyone got a boom mic to borrow?- SienYi
  • Boss i've put some ideas on Scripts. Go ahead and read it. Give me some feed back guys. khalilul
  • Here's an idea. for the comedy we do the movie like the movie 'BeDazzle' meets 'The Pineapple Express'. The tear one, the one i gave. I think is good. But just need a little tweaking. The thriller, I do love a psychological idea,I'm picturing 'The Shinning' meets 'American psycho' . Go look those movies up to get an idea a bit especially 'American psycho' . Also i personally think we really need to decide this thing fast so we can start shooting. So to all members please please give your opinions, comments and etc we need it. To make this year our year Seladang's. a scene from american psycho watch the first one to understand the second 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoIvd3zzu4Y and 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WdEL8DzvaM . khalilul
  • I agree with something like The Shining! But we have to use an economical plot to fit in 3 minutes. As for comedy, we absolutely cannot use vulgar humour, so 'Pineapple Express' is out of the ballpark. I've delegated the job for comedy-writing to Jack Jacobs and David Peters. I'll still oversee their script and direct their movie but I'm giving them more free rein with what's funny. If you have any ideas for comedy, it's best that you contact them. - SienYi
  • Here's some thing to like set the mood for the tear jerker movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyUXLzKWxLs I don't know if it would help but it could help to gain some inspiration. Also Boss for the thriller I thinking of something. Gimme til 2nite to figure it out. note i won't copy the shining 100% i'll just take the presences, the feel of the movie in to it. khalilul
  • Oh my gosh! I got a plot in my head for Tear-Jerker that could possibly fit 3 minutes. It's a one-scene plot. It might be a bit difficult to pull off because I need a very very good actress and a very very good voice actor (preferably sounding younger than the actress). Hint: it involves a phone call. If done properly it can be a VERY touching story (without someone dying on or off-screen, surprise surprise!). Now if I can just find a way to fit silk in… - SienYi
  • Tear Jerker idea. Khalilul Style haha.. anyways. Start off with the main character Jim and his best friend Micheal in a car. Micheal is taking Jim to the airport or train station. We Cross this scene with a scene at a wedding. With two people are getting married. We see a character sitting alone looks lonely, during the ceremony. Back to Jim, he gives his phone, keys and a silk scarf to Micheal. Micheal looked confused with the scarf. Jim looked at him and told him "give this to her" Micheal nodded at him as he left. Micheal looked on. Back to the wedding. Micheal arrived , he sits down with the lonely women and gives the scarf to her. Both looked, as the bride and groom just married. cut back to Jim walking. Back to the the wedding. After the ceremony, The women gave the scarf to the bride. and said "Here. He wanted us to give this to you." The Bride Nodded and said "thank you" and cried a little. back to Jim Walking away. For as the fate of Jim is unknown..Could he just left the women he loved or did he leave for an unknown reason or what….. Overall this idea consist lots of Editing and music a slow sad music like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWY7z-A50RQ So yeah keep in mind this is just an idea for the tear jerker. khalilul
  • Ji Lian, I LOVE your idea of a silent film =) Sien Yi, why don't you share the nice idea that you have so that we know it toooo? I want to know it. Then we could help you fit silk in somewhere. I was thinking that my 'butterfly' idea would be more along the lines of a horror movie. One of those wacky psychological ones. Alexis
  • In fact, I found a way to fit silk in! Hmm… I wonder whether it's safe to share the plot here while the wiki is still public. Unfortunately, it's in no way a silent film. But I'll tell you this. It involves only two characters. One of which is off-screen (only his voice over the phone is heard). The whole movie is shot in one room. There might be at least one long take for emotion. And… I'm kind of imagining the on-screen character to be you, Alexis. :) Ah… butterfly idea for the horror movie… nicee… Oh and Khalilul, I'm glad we're looking at the same sources for the song for the Tear-Jerker. I was more of looking to the House Season Four finale instead (Passing Afternoon by Iron and Wine). We could get Jes to make and sing a similar song! Hmmm… again romance is tough but to give you credit, your idea of leaving ambiguity at the end of the story is a good idea for a movie, possibly the horror one. - SienYi
  • Boss I Agree we need a really good music to set the mood for tear-jerker. I hope you idea is better than mine for the tear jerker. Also we must book Jes early just in case he goes off somewhere again. The song you do the music and I'll do the lyrics. We must create a song that really sticks to the hearts of the general audience and the judges too. For the thriller, we need to discuss it together. If not everyone won't get along with it. So yeah. that's it. And i really FEEL that we need to shortlist the list actors and actress cause i want a list of confirmed actors and actress. So I can train them in time for their part. Don't worry I well qualified to teach them. The reason being, acting is 10 marks so it would be a waste if don't get the 10 marks. Another Add for the comedy, tell Jack and David to take a look at this trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBELC_vxqhI yes the movie is called thank you for smoking. instead of that 'Thank you for buying our silk'. we just have to re-write the story. well this is just an idea. but i feel this could be our back-up plan. so yeah. khalilul
  • Love the wedding idea khalilul but switching between scenes so many times could get a bit confusing? i don't know thats just me but i like the cliff hanger for Jim's fate… i agree with JiLian though why not a silent movie? with just music and no dialog? it'll be tough but u CAN pull it off with a really good on screen cast and really moving music… but thenn for the tear jerker… could it be less… i don't know, a less 'typical korean drama' feel with all the cancer and all the cliff hangers whether the person lives or dies during surgery… i like the psychological horror for the spine-tingler!!!!! what idea do you have in mind? i'm thinking nip/tuck season 5's teddy bear woman… :P very gruesome though… are we allowed to do gruesome? cat
  • We're not allowed to do anything excessively gruesome (as in 'saw'-ish), but a little bit of blood is fine, like a guy getting shot by a gun, and a bit of blood can be seen. But not like…the guy's face is totally blown up and you can see the bloody entrails and all….eurgh… Oh and Sien Yi….what happens to the people who can't stay back during lunch tomorrow? Ji Lian
  • I'll put up meeting minutes on this page. But I'm not gonna start a discussion in that room, I'm just gonna tell them what each person should do over the course of these few weeks to make the i-Movie, or rather, i-Movies. Anyway, should we move this humongous discussion into its own page? - SienYi
  • Yeah. Move it to another page. I can't come for the meeting tomorrow, by the way. - Alexis
  • I agree. I think that on the same page, put something regarding tomorrow's meeting so that those who don't come don't miss out. - Ji Lian
  • I agree with you guys on making another page for discussion. Also about the spine tingler i will say it again we need everybody to agree on a story line. and finally have we reach our minimum quota for the i-movie team? Just wanna know you know. takut nanti tak cukup orang untuk form 1 dan form 2. je khalilul
  • Don't worry about the lack of Form 2s and 1s, Khalilul. We've got (according to the list below) more than enough Form 2s and 1s (don't forget the international students :D) Oh yeah, Jian wants to join iMovie too, which adds another Form 1 and YES member (hopefully) to the team. - Ji Lian
  • I'm still not in the YES Group on the VLE and the list of official active YES members have not be released there. So cross fingers for the YES members. And yes, I'll just update you guys about the meeting on the wiki here. - SienYi
  • We really do need to confirm our YES members. And tell Keshava or whomever to come up with a good idea for the comedy three minute show ASAP. - Alexis
  • The comedy should be really natural. It should seem like, spontaneously done, which I'm sure people like Keshava, etc etc and do. But if we use lines which we all heard before, it'll turn out to be very lame, in my opinion. We have to have a touch of James Bond in all the movies, right? Why not try having a "wannabe" James Bond trying to copy the real one? Just an opinion. :) Haven't had any other ideas for the rest though. - Tyen
  • Well, the new rules say we don't have to follow our House Themes, in our case Casino Royale, for our movies. But you can always put James Bond if you want. Yes, I agree with you, Tyen and Alexis, that we need natural comedians e.g. Kesh to do some seemingly spontaneous stuff for comedy. And for horror, I realise that 3 minutes is VERY SHORT to set up the mood for a movie. So, I was thinking, why not we just portray a 'scene' out of a bigger story. That scene can stand alone without any major complex plot and just relies on how terrifying the mood is. An example of a standalone scene is from the movie Jacobs' Ladder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXXbIOc9h4g (WARNING: Some horrifying images are present. We should not use gore at all in our movie!) I like how they set up the mood and tension from start to finish, and I might wanna try doing the 'twitching head effect' at 1:47 in the scene! Also, note that the clip is already 3 min 31 sec long. Shows you how short of a time we really have! - SienYi
  • What i've heard from the guys that doing comedy is that their gonna be doing a brain storming meeting sometime this week i think.Yeah for the horror, yeah the scene from Jacobs' Ladder yeah it oh so reminds me of linkin park's song papercut. Anyways theres an idea but not yet confirmed that the movie has a quarantine/ clover field type of feel to it. I've talked to the boss about it. but i want to heard your opinions! Anyways I've been getting help from my old mentor from klpac on how to do this. And he told me if we want to do a thriller/horror movie look up these movies 'Donnie Darko','28 days later'(I personally think it's hard especially 3 minutes is not enough), 'six sense.' 'the butterfly effect'', 'Dark Knight.'. 'The Shinning' and his personal favourite 'Collateral' and 'the prestige'. Also he told me that in this kind of movie there should be a BadA** Character that the audience say 'Holy ****!'. another he said it would always be cool if theres two characters clashing their ideals. i.e Batman vs The joker. Finally he told me USE THE FEAR TO FRIGHTEN AUDIENCE TIL THEIR DEATH BED. TAKE SOMETHING THAT THEY COMFORT AND TWIST IT.. yeah that he said. And here's some trailers from Donnie Darko http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wqVHjK2bQs (Warning it might disturb you) Collateral http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BDx6ZPHV4w and the prestige http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgNVC6Hv4KE all right these are just basic ideas so far toward creating a great movie to be enjoyed by all. cheerskhalilul
  • I'm trying not to do a Quarantine/Cloverfield effect as it is difficult to set up good video camera angles and also to suspend their disbelief (why would anyone carry their camera all through their survival journey?). We're still considering it though, if we can get a good plot to go with it. But yes, we need a very menacing character with no sense of morality or reason (supernatural or otherwise) for Horror. - SienYi
  • Maybe for Horror, we could do something like an 'internal battle'. Picture a guy in the first scene. He's fighting an unidentified person/people, but as the fight progresses somewhat, the scene distorts and we find that he is fighting himself. No one else is in the room. He runs off with blood running from his mouth to the bathroom to wash his face, but as he does that, his reflection in the mirror starts to torment him (and maybe have some really sudden, scary music to shock the audience), sending him into a panic and he runs from there. As he runs, he has these scary flashbacks (this is supposed to explain the storyline) of *possibly* his 'twin in the mirror' tormenting him further, trying to take over his body *body snatchers? haha…* (blank here. no idea here yet) Finally, he reaches a place that he feels safe in (no mirrors maybe?) and as he lies down, he finds that his 'reflection' has materialized and grasps him by the throat. Suddenly, the scene cuts to the ending, where we find just one of the guy, 'reflection' gone. Or something like that :D tweaking needed for this story, but how is it? - Ji Lian
  • Ho hum… I'm looking for that kind of crazy psychological horror actually! One that does not really need a plot. But won't the visual effect of battling with an actor clone be very difficult to edit? Hmm… I actually want to build extreme tension in 3 minutes. Check out this trailer of 'The Strangers' if you haven't already: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1TBlPelvbE. Some camera shots in the trailer is absolutely brilliant. On the same note, I got a tip that to make the antagonist more inhuman, we must do something to the face, since the human face is something we are always familiar with. That's why a distorted face, or hidden face makes the person A LOT more scary. Therefore, can we have a masked antagonist? Or, an antagonist with his entire head covered with a SILK cloth a la THIS: http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/6161/currenttowelhead3mh.jpg - SienYi
  • A few things. I can see the idea where your going, cause when i watched the trailer boss. It reminds me of the movie SCREAM now that's a scary movie in my view. I like the idea of the antagonist with the silk cloth and all. I can imagine Jack Torrance from the shinning wearing a silk cloth over his head. Oooo Imagine a scene. where the victims From a top floor see the antagonist walking up the stairs slowly. Then the victims decides to take the elevator down so they can avoid the villain. But then the antagonist appears in the elevator with an axe? or something. then a shot close up on the his face all freaky and he says "Going Down?" or "Here's Daddy!" or something, a very very good/creepy one liner. Well it's just an idea to keep the mind thinking for an even better idea. Wait i think I've got an idea. I'll write it and tell you about it tomorrow. Cheerio. Here a trailer form scream(Be warned it is scary.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTWf9QGdJCQ khalilul
  • I'd like to see your script! I'm trying not to make as un-cheesy as possible, so, unless we can find an extremely realistic-looking axe (that's not dangerous), an axe would probably be out of the question. Oh, and I'd rather want the antagonist to not talk at all, so that he/she seems more inhuman. - SienYi
  • I'll E-mail you the script tomorrow late night. Cause i got loads of stuff to do. But I Can Say that What I'm Picturing. Well it's really Creepy. No Gore or what sort of gore violence. But really poltergeist type of scary feel to it. Also What I'm thinking is that the antagonist hums to a song. A song that people enjoy cherish and love. and we Twisted into a creepy hum which makes the audience to think twice before listening to the song. on that it is allowed to hum to a song by an artist? boss. Give me a little bit of time to work on the script. so by The break of Dawn on Saturday You'll have it. it's so gonna creep the audience let alone the judges. khalilul
  • I just want your opinion. Do you think it's safe to put up scripts on this wiki for us to discuss and to cast people and so that the actors know what they have to do BEFORE shooting day? If you think it's OK, I'll put up my draft for the Horror script for you to see. - SienYi
  • NO i'm just afraid if something happen. Ok you email me your script tonight and i'll email you mine tonight also. Just email each other. And til we reach to an agreement on the horror script. To Make Life really easy. If you are coming by around Bangsar Village tomorrow just gimme a call. Since i just live so near by. We can discuss face to face with about our scripts and compare them and finally see which is the one to carry out or do some even better or awesome idea for the movie. But first things first email me your script and i'll email mine tonight. Gimme a bit more time cause i'm like half way through mine due to some schedule conflicts. so yeah gimme a call if you want to meet. khalilul
  • Well, it's not just you, Khalilul. We've to show most of the other seniors the scripts before we even start casting. Anyway, how come only 3 Seladangs (excluding me) have filled up the i-Movie Schedule on this wiki so far? I need as much information about your schedules so that I can slot shooting times. - SienYi
